**Job Summary**

+ Entry/developmental-level truck drivers are responsible for loading, driving, and unloading trucks within the metro Washington, D.C. area. They must hold as a minimum a Class B driver's license and be capable of operating a range of vehicles to include box trucks, forklifts, and other material handling equipment. Drivers will handle a more limited range of cargo than that of a full-performance truck driver. Work consists of driving trucks and other vehicles to established safety standards; loading/unloading cargo (much of which is nonstandard and may include hazardous materials); and making personal deliveries to customers in office settings. Truck drivers work independently, under general supervision of a first-line contractor supervisor; they may work in tandem with a more senior truck driver when making deliveries in the local WDC area..

+ Prepares for trip:

+ Receives trip assignment and manifest from section chief.

+ Performs safety inspection of vehicle and note any needed repairs on Vehicle Condition Report.

+ Performs routine vehicle checks and tops off oil, antifreeze, and windshield fluids as required, as well as adjusting tire pressure.

+ Assists with truck loading as necessary, ensuring that material is loaded in accordance with weight distribution guidelines and limitations.

+ Records travel data in driver's log.

+ Operates truck:

+ Drives truck to designated local delivery point(s); may be accompanied by a more senior truck driver.

+ While driving, employs surveillance detection techniques to include using alternate, circuitous routes.

+ Assists in identifying items requiring special handling at delivery point.

+ As necessary, unloads truck and delivers material to specific customers in office settings using a variety of material handling equipment; professionally represents Logistics by providing solid customer service.

+ Picks up material for return delivery to the warehouse facility

+ Reloads truck and returns to designated location.

+ Assists crew, as necessary, with loading backhaul cargo, ensuring that material is loaded in accordance with weight distribution guidelines and limitations.

+ Confirms that material loaded onto truck corresponds with return trip manifest.

+ Records travel data in driver's log.

+ Perform ad hoc warehouseman duties such as loading/unloading trucks and moving materials between designated staging locations.

**Minimum Requirements**

+ Ability to obtain a basic knowledge of Agency unique policies and regulations that pertain to the secure transportation of materials.

+ Basic knowledge of DOT regulations on transportation of hazardous materials.

+ Basic knowledge of loading dock safety procedures and requirements.

+ Basic knowledge of Windows-based computer applications.

+ Ability to obtain a basic knowledge of the Working Capital Fund business operating structure.

+ Good interpersonal and customer service skills.

+ Ability to pay attention to detail to ensure that the material delivered and/or picked up matches with what is documented on the cargo manifest.

+ Ability to safely operate a range of vehicles (within the scope of the commercial Class B driver's license) and material handling equipment.

+ Ability to operate a range of vehicles, including box trucks, forklifts, and other material-handling equipment.

+ Ability to load cargo in accordance with weight distribution guidelines and limitations.

+ Ability to read maps and follow directions to locate proper delivery destinations.

+ Ability to lift up to 70 lbs.

+ Ability to follow oral and written instructions.

+ Ability to obtain and maintain security clearance in accordance with Agency regulations.

+ Class B driver’s license.

+ Pass DOT medical physical for operating trucks.

**Preferred Qualifications**

Six months’ general work experience.
