Position Description:
Position Purpose:

The Sr. Director of Corporate Communications is responsible for leading the Corporate Communications team to promote the company s strategic priorities and vision both internally and externally. The Sr. Director must develop the long-term, overarching strategy, creativity and consistency for communicating to associates and national media, in coordination non-U.S. entities. The Sr. Director is also be charged with identifying and prioritizing the critical issues facing the company, advising senior leadership on potential ramifications, developing a proactive action plan to mitigate potential damage.

Major Tasks, Responsibilities & Key Accountabilities:

  • Develop integrated internal/external strategies designed to maximize the visibility of the company and its business among associates, as well as national and local news media
  • Day-to-day, act as the company s primary spokesperson for national media on broad company and industry issues, including financial performance and strategy
  • Drive creativity, quality and other best practices across the corporate communications function
  • Develop the communications vision and strategy for business functions, stores/operations, functional areas (e.g., supply chain, HR, IT), executive communications
  • Lead enterprise-wide crisis communications preparation and response, serving as strategic counsel to VP of CCEA as well as company executive leadership
  • Create crisis and issues management plans that are designed to minimize public exposure of the company and its businesses in response to unforseen issues and/or problems
  • Develop members of the Corporate Communications team, as well as other CCEA team members, through personal involvement and leadership

Nature and Scope:

  • This position reports to the VP of Corporate Communications and External Affairs.
  • Accountable for direct supervision of the work activities of others. In addition to personnel issues -- including selection, termination, performance appraisal and professional development of subordinates.

Environment:

  • Located in a comfortable indoor area. Any unpleasant conditions would be infrequent and not objectionable.

Travel:

  • Typically requires overnight travel 5% to 20% of the time.


ESSENTIAL SKILLS:
Minimum Qualifications:

  • Must be eighteen years of age or older.
  • Must be legally permitted to work in the United States

Education Required:

  • The knowledge, skills and abilities typically acquired through the completion of a bachelor's degree program or equivalent degree in a field of study related to the job.

Years of Relevant Work Experience:
10+ years

Physical Requirements:

  • Most of the time is spent sitting in a comfortable position and there is frequent opportunity to move about. On rare occasions there may be a need to move or lift light articles.

Preferred Qualifications:
  • A college degree is required. An advanced degree in Business, Finance or Communications is preferred.
  • Candidate should have 10-15 years of experience with a significant level of prior experience in a senior communications role.
Knowledge, Skills, Abilities and Competencies:
  • Ability to develop, articulate and drive execution of large, long-term strategic communications initiatives
  • Extensive experience working with senior-most leadership.
  • Proven experience leading and developing a high-performing team.
  • The ability to make significant decisions under pressure, and act on those decisions, as appropriate
  • Strong business acumen and the ability to comprehend and act on complex situations
  • The ability to motivate and inspire a large team of diverse team
