Position Description:
POSITION PURPOSE
The Project Manager is responsible for supporting teams by independently executing project management activities. Project Managers typically support low complexity projects in a vendor facing capacity.
The Project Manager is responsible for supporting teams by executing project management activities under the supervision of more senior Project Management Team members.
Project Managers create and maintains project plans, develop and communicate status reports, manage issues and risks, and help to control project scope. In addition, they work with project teams and 3rd party vendors to maintain alignment and lead cost-benefit analysis efforts.

Required Skills For Network Engineering PM Position

  • Minimum 3-5 years IT Project Management experience, preferably Infrastructure (Network Data Center, Network Connectivity)
  • Excellent soft skills for communications at all business levels as well as relationship management with both team, vendors and stakeholders
  • Detail-oriented: Skilled at driving on-time schedules, matrix team testing, hardware procurement management, 3rd party/vendor schedules
  • Customer Service orientation and problem solver mentality 
  • Ability to organize complex details into a workable project schedule, primarily waterfall.  Some knowledge of Agile, Pivotal Tracker and SmartSheet is good 
  • Keep track of hard cap purchases: what is spent, deployed, uncommitted with oversight on the impacts to overall spend
  • Build and manage project forecast to keep spend on track
  • Very good facilitator of project meetings
  • Manage issues and risks – drive escalations
  • Confidence to present the project team's objectives and plan to the various business teams with audience-specific messaging
  • Report on project progress to management: weekly status reports, monthly project reviews
  • Running Scrum: Run daily standups, assist with Blockers, drive improvement
  • Intermediate and above skill with MS Excel, SharePoint/Teams, MS Project is required.  SmartSheet and Pivotal Tracker experience is a plus.
  • Prefer experience managing large projects, including a budget of $2M- $20M

     

    Project Responsibilities include:

    • Provide Project Management support & communications for Data Center upgrades (equipment, code versions) heavy involvement with matrixed teams' testing
    • Provide Project Management support & communications for Enhancements to Network facilities/carrier upgrades
    • Manage project labor budget of $10M+ in SAP tool, keeping a realistic run rate and forecasting the required resources
    • Manage project hard cap budget , submitting and tracking project purchases and reporting spend monthly
    • Execute Proof of Concepts in partnership with the Store Device Engineering and Network Engineering Teams - Can be highly visible and/or customer facing. Great exposure to new technology
    • Maintain detailed Project Plans, RAID Logs and Project Dashboards in SmartSheet
    • Assist Technology Leads in putting network failover testing plans into action: organize details and coordinate the resources responsible for executing the tasks. 

      MAJOR TASKS, RESPONSIBILITIES AND KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES
      70% - Delivery & Execution:
      Executes project scoping and manages scope for low to medium complexity projects
      Creates, monitors, tracks, and adjusts project plans based on critical milestones
      Conducts budget planning and manages budget
      Conducts cost benefit analysis and justification process
      Develops and communicates status updates highlighting any potential issues, including schedule, resource, cost, and risks
      Documents and applies lessons learned to subsequent projects and regularly contributes suggestions for improvement
      Understands organizational goals to apply to project work
      Forecasts timelines, budget needs, and resource needs with accuracy
      Completes toll gate artifacts (Charter, Business Acceptance Document, etc.)
      20% - Monitoring:
      Identifies, defines, and makes recommendations to mitigate risks
      Manages projects in adherence with The Home Depot's compliance regulations
      Works with project teams and 3rd party vendors to ensure critical dependencies remain unthreatened
      Captures and drives issues to resolution
      10% - Administration & Operations:
      Updates The Home Depot systems on a standard cadence (e.g. financials)
      Creates, documents, and posts project artifacts to centralized repositories
      Manages the purchase order and invoicing process with 3rd party vendors
      Facilitates the onboarding and ramp up of new project team members
      NATURE AND SCOPE
      Typically reports to the Technology Coordination Manager or Sr. Manager.

      Typically requires overnight travel less than 10% of the time.
