**Job Summary**

The Building + Places of AECOM is actively seeking, a highly talented structural engineer for immediate employment in the Oakland or San Francisco, CA office.

The appropriately qualified applicant will be able to demonstrate a combination of the following responsibilities:

+ Competent in all conventional aspects of the subject matter of the functional area of the assignments, plans and conducts work requiring judgment in the independent evaluation, selection and substantial adaptation and modification of standard engineering techniques, procedures and criteria.

+ Independently performs most assignments with instructions as to the general results expected and is the first level of direct and sustained supervision and guidance of other engineers or technicians.

+ Compare technical approaches with peers on unusual or complex problems and seeks supervisory approval on proposed plans for projects. Works independently with general guidance except for complex and unusual situations.

+ Performs work, which may include a variety of complex features such as conflicting design requirements, unsuitability of conventional materials, and difficult coordination requirements. As necessary, modifies established guidelines, devises new approaches, applies existing criteria in new ways and draws conclusions from comparative situations.

+ Team leader, working with the team members to reasonably solve conflicts and provide technical guidance, quickly and effectively.

+ Essential working habits: build trust and camaraderie between team members, inspire and motivate teamwork for achieving goals, influence valuable changes and positive outcomes, be open to new ideas coming from team members, consult frequently with key team members, establish an open discussion for decision-making, encourage and support independent thinking, recognize and acknowledge the skills of key team members and utilize their strengths to the benefit of the team, define clearly state expectations and objectives with the team members, ensure that all members understand the missions ahead, evaluate results and provide feedback in a timely fashion.

+ Embraces and leverage innovation to improve existing workflows to increase project quality/efficiency

**Minimum Requirements**

+ Bachelor's Degree in Structural Engineering

+ 13+ Years of Experience

+ California PE License

+ Experience in corporate, commercial, or justice projects

+ Knowledge of steel, concrete and timber design

+ Knowledge of industry standard computer analysis and design software such as SAP, ETABS, etc.

+ Proficient in current applicable codes (IBC, CBC, ASCE 41, ASCE 7, ACI 318, AISC 360 and AISC 341)

+ Experience preparing technical reports, calculation packages, plans and specifications

+ Experience providing construction support and client communication

+ Effective communicator who has experience managing others

**Preferred Qualifications**

+ Master's Degree preferred

+ California SE preferred

+ Knowledge of both Revit and AutoCAD

+ Seismic design and retrofit experience

+ Knowledge of CMU design (ACI 530) and timber design

+ Experience with OSHPD or Justice or Correctional Facilities

+ Experience with structural assessments and retrofit preferred
