**Position Summary:**



The Operations Research Analyst is responsible for applying analytical methods to improve decision making across the Staples Supply Chain and working with the business to execute those improvements. Using mathematical modeling & optimization, statistical analysis, and data visualization tools, the individual will play an important role in tactical execution of optimal solutions to complex decision-making problems.



These problems will come from all parts of the Staples Supply Chain and will include challenges like:



+ Developing inventory management procurement strategies that minimize Staples investment in inventory while achieving or exceeding service-level targets

+ Refining the Staples logistics network strategy to ensure facility locations and customer assignments are optimized to minimize variable costs

+ Enhancing and implementing product profitability / cost-to-serve models to ensure the right products are being stocked in the right locations



The resource will work closely with the Manager of Supply Chain Analytics. The analytics performed will encompass all aspects of SC projects involving a diverse group (including Strategy, Merchandising, Sales, Logistics, and Fulfillment Centers).



**Primary Responsibilities:**



+ Apply analytical methods to solve complex, data-driven business problems that will ultimately have a direct impact on the Staples bottom-line

+ Communicate results to management and the business as needed

+ Research, design, and implement data models and BI tools and innovative algorithms to analyze diverse sources of data to realize actionable results to optimize the supply chain

+ This role will be directly or indirectly supporting all functional areas within the Staples Supply Chain



**Qualifications**



**Basic Skills** **:**



+ BS in Operations Research, Industrial Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Supply Chain, Manufacturing, Mathematics, Statistics, Computer Science, or related field plus 1-3 years industry experience or a Masters Degree in Operations Research, Industrial Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Supply Chain, Manufacturing, Mathematics, Statistics, Computer Science, or related (no industry experience required).

+ Experience with data mining, mathematical modeling, statistical analysis, and mathematical optimization tools, and data visualization tools

+ Demonstrated analytical thinking, strategic problem solving capabilities

+ Ability to make and present recommendations based on analytical findings

+ Ability to coordinate and work with multiple teams to execute solutions

+ Effective communication skills

+ Ability to work in fast paced environment and manage multiple priorities



**Preferred Skills** **:**



+ Programming Skills developing back-end cloud applications in NodeJS, Go, Python, or Java & Scala

+ Experience working with RDBMS and NoSQL data stores on-premise and in the Cloud (e.g.: SQL Server, PostgresSQL, MongoDB, Cassandra, Azure Cosmos DB, DynamoDB, Redshift, Teradata, Oracle, Snowflake)

+ Experience building solutions on public cloud platforms (e.g.: Azure, AWS, GCP, Snowflake) using platform services and integrating with various on-premise systems

+ Experience working with data visualization and BI tools such as Tableau or Power BI pulling data from various sources such as Snowflake, Azure and Teradata

+ Knowledge of supply chain operations (including fulfillment, replenishment, transportation), merchandising and sales

+ Ability to communicate complex quantitative analysis in a clear, precise, and actionable manner with both technical and nontechnical customers

+ Knowledge of Staples business units, Merchandising, and Supply Chain systems is a plus
