Staples US Retail is assembling an internal creative team of strategic thinkers, collaborators and storytellers to help us continue to share our evolution to Staples Connect and define Staples stores as the working and learning destination for local communities. This nimble, collaboration-oriented team of designers, writers, creators, producers and project managers will work shoulder-to-shoulder with marketers, merchants, strategists, product owners and external creative teams to develop compelling content and build engaging store, digital and marketing experiences for our customers. **This role: Detailed, thoughtful design**



Reporting to the ACD Design, the Lead Designer is responsible for supporting the ACD Design and fellow member of the design team in developing and producing Tier 2 & 3 digital and print marketing materials for all assigned internal stakeholder work. The Designer must exhibit competent design skills in achieving the highest possible standards for all materials requiring design in assigned projects and tasks. They need basic knowledge of clients business challenges to execute design requests as defined by the client.



**Key Responsibilities**



**Design Development**


Design marketing assets as prescribed by creative briefs under the direction of the CD, ACD, Design and AD



+ Designs and manages Tier 2 & 3 marketing materials from start-to-finish

+ Develops initial rough layouts or mock-ups for creative review with management



+ Recommends, researches and develops imagery to support creative strategy and execution

+ Collaborates with writing team as needed for specific project objectives

+ Collaborates with manager as needed for design support and professional insights

+ Produces and is accountable for the final development of creative assets and ensures accuracy, attention to details and overall meets or exceeds the design objectives

+ Ensures brand guidelines and directives are embraced and adhered to in all executions

**Skills & Knowledge Requirements**



+ Demonstrates expertise of design techniques, skills, tools and procedures for the applicable media



+ Demonstrates proficient expertise in Illustrator, Photoshop, InDesign, Acrobat and quality control best practices

+ Understands design applications in traditional and digital channels with a focus on print or digital design expertise as applicable

+ Experience developing creative for use in the retail channel experience

+ Actively learns new techniques to be more proficient in their design skills

+ Writes and speaks effectively and is able to clearly communicate with peers, leadership team and clients



+ States opinion clearly and can verbally describe visual concepts and relate them to the strategy

+ Does not create an adverse (us vs. them) mentality regarding client/creative points of view

+ Eager to share designs with team early in the process to gain alignment on execution strategy

+ Leverages data and trends in the competitive landscape to inform the design process

+ Reviews the briefs ensuring they fully understand the objectives



+ Is pragmatic with creative executions always keeping eye on the objectives of the assignment

+ Listens well and incorporates other viewpoints into the design process

+ Supports and demonstrates corporate brand knowledge

+ Is an ambassador for the marketing department objectives and point of view on corporate brand and its visual identity

+ Maintains high standards despite pressing deadlines and always strives to do work right the first time

+ Seeks appropriate support from other designers to help develop assets for specific projects

+ Executes design requests with accuracy, producing zero errors in work (all client edits are implemented correctly, spell check was run, specs were adhered to)

**Education & Experience Requirements**



+ Bachelors degree required, preferably in graphic design or related field

+ 4+ years of professional-level experience required in creative/graphic design within an external or in-house agency

+ Expert-level proficiency in Adobe Creative Cloud software: InDesign, Illustrator, Photoshop



+ Competency in Sketch, InVision, After Effects preferred

+ HTML, HTML5 expertise a plus

+ Portfolio required
