Position Description:

Position Purpose

The Home Depot Design Center (HDDC) Executive Chef uses a hands-on approach to provide a unique food and beverage experience designed to demonstrate the operation andfeatures/advantages/benefits of various key products.

This is a multi-faceted role that involves culinary expertise, training, and sales. The Executive Chef will entice buyers to buy the product that they represent by creating customer interest. Specifically, they will demonstrate the functionality of the product, answer questions, and provide customers with product information. Executive Chefs will read the client/audience, and adapt their approach to best fit the needs of their audience.

They will also oversee the condition and appearance of the kitchen and demonstration areas, product inventory, and ensure that areas are clean and safe. They will also train, mentor, and develop Sous Chef's on product knowledge and food demonstration skills. The Executive Chef must be able to charismatically communicate with clients while high-lightening product features/benefits in order to gain buyer interest and create meaningful experiences.

 

Major Tasks, Responsibilities and Key Accountabilities

80% Product Demonstration and Customer Service

- Develops local relationships and sets up house accounts with food retailers and specialty markets

- Oversees and ensures that the food is of high quality and prepared to the proper specifications

- Explains technical product or service information to customers

- Conducts menu planning and the creation of new dishes

- Pays close attention to the cost standards associated with each menu item while managing product inventory and orders

- Ensures the kitchen operates to safety and sanitation standards including keeping records of food handler cards and cleanliness of the kitchen

- Coordinates with ASD on special events and all guest culinary needs, to include setting the yearly event schedule

- Delegates food prep needs for upcoming demonstrations

- Engages clients by asking open-ended questions

- Oversees the sets up of displays or demonstration areas to attract the attention of prospective clients

- Practices demonstrations to ensure that they will run smoothly

- Prepares food and allows clients to taste the food

- Records and reports demonstration-related information, such as the number of questions asked by the audience or the number of coupons distributed

 

10% Sales

- Suggests related items/services that might compliment the clients project needs

- Provides coupons, informational brochures, or other incentives to persuade

people to buy products

- Sells products being promoted and keeps records of sales

- Refers clients to Designers or Appliance Sales Specialists to close sales

- Stays abreast of daily, weekly, monthly sales reports

 

10% Self Development

- Seeks knowledge to stay informed of new product lines

- Educates Sous Chefs on product knowledge

- Visit trade shows, stores, community organizations, or other venues to learn about

products

- Routinely develops skills in related areas of expertise

- Consistently updates knowledge of other HD companies in order to make recommendations to clients

Nature and Scope

Typically reports to HDDC Assistant Store Manager

This position has two direct reports.

Environmental Job Requirements

Typically in a comfortable environment but with regular exposure to factors such as temperature extremes, moving machinery, loud noise, and fumes which cause noticeable discomfort or a moderate risk of accident or illness.
