**Category Manager - Dotcom & Commercial (Sell Side)**



**POSITION SUMMARY:**



This position is an integral component of the Staples Dotcom and Commercial Sell-Side Merchandising department, responsible for delivering budgeted sales and margin by developing and executing a customer-centric business strategy. This strategy will be inspired by deep customer insight and market data, and will include assortment planning, promotional management and site experience.



The Category Merchant has direct reports at Project Specialist and Product Specialist level.



**PRIMARY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:**



+ Acquire a deep understanding of customer needs through market data and field insight

+ Develop and execute a business plan to achieve budgeted sales and margin goals

+ Develop, execute, and effectively communicate strategy to the highest levels of the company

+ Ensure plans align with company strategic objectives and goals

+ Effectively partner to drive strategy, growth and proactively solve everyday opportunities and challenges with transactional website (staples.com, staplesadvantage.com)

+ Choose assortment, influence pricing, and create an appropriate customer experience

+ Effectively partner and influence other cross-functional partners, such as Sales Force, Pricing, Site Merchandising, Marketing, Portfolio, Inventory & Planning

+ Manage and develop team members



**Qualifications**



**MINIMUM EDUCATIONAL REQUIREMENTS:**



+ Bachelors Degree in Business or related field



**MINIMUM PRIOR RELATED WORK EXPERIENCE TYPICALLY REQUIRED:**



+ Minimum 6 years total experience in buying related functions (buying/ merchandising)



**ESSENTIAL SKILLS REQUIRED:**



+ Proven ability to drive sales and margin results

+ Multiple category experience including large P&L management is preferred

+ Proficiency in B2B and Ecommerce sales metrics and best-practices to optimize traffic, conversion and ultimately sales & profit growth

+ Demonstrated financial acumen and in-depth proficiency in analysis, forecasting, demand shaping and SKU-level assortment rationalization

+ Excellent verbal and written communication skills. Ability to influence at multiple levels

+ Demonstrated ability to build strategic partnerships across organization and with vendors at the highest levels

+ Accomplished in holding a team accountable to achieve measurable results

+ Proactive communications; comfortable with assessing the need for immediate action

+ Exceptional time management, prioritization and organizational skills

+ Data-driven decision maker

+ Willing, hands-on problem solver

+ PC literate with strong abilities in Excel
