**Job Summary**

AECOM is actively seeking an experienced, creative, highly talented Freeway/Signal Ops Technician for immediate employment in the Chester, VA office.This position will be a direct report to the Freeway Signal Operations Senior Engineer and Regional Operations Manager with direct multi-agency communications.

The responsibilities of this position include, but are not limited to:

+ Responsible for monitoring traffic signal system

+ Collection of traffic data, including intersection lane measurements, grades and signal phasing

+ Troubleshooting traffic signals, active traffic management systems, computer network, or traffic surveillance camera malfunctions

+ Assist in the development of coordinated traffic signal timing plans, development of timing databases and conducting before and after studies

+ Conduct traffic and intelligent transportation systems (ITS) engineering studies

+ Coordinate effectively with agency staff, contractors, and other consultants

+ Implement signal timing plans and signal timing changes in relation to current traffic trends

+ Adherence to signal timing plan protocols

+ Assess performance of traffic signal system and relative report preparation

+ Other ad-hoc initiatives as assigned by the Project Management Team

**Minimum Requirements**

+ Bachelor of Science degree in Civil Engineering or other Engineering discipline

+ Understanding of Intelligent Transportation Systems (ITS), advanced traffic signal systems, surveillance systems and communications networks

+ Must pass a State and Federal criminal history/security background check; must also successfully complete Virginia Department of Transportation fingerprint-based Criminal History Records Check (CHRC)

+ Possess a valid Virginia Class D License and a clean driving record in the last 7 years, including no suspension of license or single violation that Virginia Motor Vehicle treats as worth 6 demerits

+ Must pass a pre-employment drug screen

+ Must participate in and successfully complete a post-offer, pre-employment fitness for duty questionnaire

+ Physically able, with or without an accommodation, to work in indoor (office) and outdoor environments with uneven terrain, variable outdoor conditions including heat, dusts, noise, moisture, and dryness. Position requires often repetitive bending & stooping, standing/walking, power gripping/squeezing (hand tools, levers, etc.), operation of vehicles, working at heights, climbing stairs, performing work on electrical circuits, keyboard/mouse operations, and repetitive or fine hand movements; occasionally working with arms above shoulder level, wearing fall protection, working in confined spaces, working alone in isolated/remote areas, and lifting of less than 25 pounds; rarely using portable ladders, working in an environment of heavy, moving, dangerous equipment, and lifting of 25 - 50 pounds. Position will include wearing associated personal protective equipment, including safety shoes/boots, hard hat, gloves, safety glasses/goggles, and high visibility vest

+ Intermediate skill proficiency in the use of Windows based applications including Outlook, Internet Explorer, Word, Excel and Basic level skill with PowerPoint

+ Efficient and effective execution of technical documents

+ Adherence to established timelines

+ Ability to communicate clearly and concisely

+ Ability to work alternate work schedules in support of 24/7/365 operation center; Schedules are dictated by need of operation and stated in advance. Schedules will vary

+ Must be able to work independently and in a team environment. Must be able to collaborate with others in region of responsibility

+ Short or no notice work assignments

+ Limited travel within region of responsibility; rarely overnight

**Preferred Qualifications**

+ Geographic familiarity with regional freeway system and arterial roads

+ Radio and telecommunications experience
